Chapter Twelve
“Close your eyes,” Koorgan softly instructed her.
“Why? Are you going to get naked?” she teased.
“I would be very happy to do so if you so wish, my Lady,” he growled with a chuckle.
Ruth bit her lip and laughed. “I think I might actually faint at the sight of so much manly goodness,” she joked breathily, her cheeks flushing.
His warm breath swept over her, his eyes dancing with amusement at her reaction. She fanned herself with her hand, trying to cool the sudden heat flooding her body as she remembered the few glimpses of flesh and morning arousal she had seen over the past week. It wasn’t her fault she’d seen just enough to make her imagination really soar.
If only…, she wistfully thought.
He motioned for her to cover her eyes and she did. They had been out and about all morning – if you could call walking the halls and being in his office working ‘being out’. She had loved it when he took her on a tour of the castle after a morning filled with contracts, document reviews, and meetings about economic development.
“You can open them now,” he whispered near her ear.
Ruth opened her eyes. Her breath caught and she took a step forward on his hand. Her arm wrapped around his finger.
“Oh my God, are you serious?” she breathed.
His nightstand had been replaced with a larger version, and sitting in the middle of it was a beautiful replica of the castle – and it was the perfect size for her. He walked forward and placed her on the cobbled path that led to the front gates. Unable to resist, she stepped over to the grass and bent to run her hand along it.
“It feels so real,” she said in wonder.
Koorgan smiled. “It is. It is a moss that grows close to the ground,” he explained.
Her gaze moved to the flower beds with tiny, delicate flowers blooming. Lifting her skirt, she walked to the them and gently rubbed a petal between her fingers. “And these…,” she inquired, looking at him.
Koorgan pulled up a chair and sat down next to the long chest. “They look full grown to you, but they are small wildflowers that grow that size. They have been enchanted to remain like that,” he said.
“Oh, this….,” she waved her hand to the palace.
“The finest craftsmen in the Kingdom have been working day and night on this for you,” he explained.
Ruth chuckled and shook her head. “The bill for this thing is going to put a small dent in your treasury! I was doing okay with the golden bird cage,” she said.
“You don’t like it?” he asked.
Ruth saw the swift disappointment in his eyes. “No – no, I love it! I just worry that you spent so much… for me,” she lamely finished.
Koorgan lowered his head until his chin was even with her. “I would do so much more for you if I could, Lady Ruth,” he said.
Ruth looked at him with a bemused expression. “You’re doing it again,” she murmured.
